Who is Native Essence Herb Co.?

Native Essence Herb Company, located just outside the town of Taos in the enchanted mountains of northern New Mexico, began preparing herbal products in 1992. The company began with the Rene Caisse formula (Native Essence Tea). Since then the herb company has expanded the line to include dozens of combination formulas and over 100 single herbs.

The company is family owned and operated.

The Herbal Formulas are combinations of individually extracted single herbs. All of our Herbal formulas are liquid extracts (except the Rene Caisse Tea) and contain USP pharmaceutical grade grain alcohol. What are single herbs?

The single herbs are liquid extracts of the individual herbs we offer. All single herb liquid extracts contain USP pharmaceutical grade grain alcohol. All of our single herb extracts are prepared using the highest quality fresh and freshly dried plants available. Whether organically grown or ecologically wildcrafted, we guarantee our herbs will always be free from fumigation, irradiation or synthetic chemicals.

How do I take Herbal Solutions?

Our liquid extracts can be added to your favorite beverage. For maximum effectiveness we recommend adding the extract to warm water or tea or taken sublingually (under the tongue). Warm beverages are closer to the body's temperature, allowing the herbs to be more easily assimilated. Taking the extracts sublingually (under the tongue) will also provide fast and maximum absorption but can be a little harsh with the alcohol.

H
ow are they prepared?

Our extracts are prepared according to specific extraction procedures. Each plant is individually extracted using grain alcohol and distilled water. Some plant's bio-active constituents will dictate the concentration of alcohol used, this ensures maximum extraction. Most of our extracts contain approximately 40% USP pharmaceutical grade grain alcohol.

The extraction procedures vary according to the individual plant and whether the plant is fresh or dry. Most extracts are prepared by a slow, cold percolation process or through a long maceration, with some plants going through the process more than once to increase concentration.

All of our extracts are prepared to specific herb strengths, 1:2 to 1:4 for dry plants and 1:1 to 1:2 for fresh plants. The herb strength ratio is the amount (by weight) of solid plant parts (root, flower, etc.) used to obtain the final amount of extract. Thus, an herb strength ratio of 1:2 means 1 oz. of plant material is used to make a 2 oz. bottle of extract. Since many fresh plants still contain a good percentage of water, more fresh plant material will generally be used when making an extract with fresh plants.

Why the alcohol in extracts?

USP pharmaceutical grade grain alcohol is used because it is the purest and most effective solvent for extracting the bio-active constituents into the bloodstream and across the cell membrane quickly. This assures a more rapid absorption and assimilation of a plant's vital healing properties than capsules or tablets. It is also the only edible solvent that can properly extract and concentrate the plant's constituents that are poorly soluble in water, such as resins, essential oils and most alkaloids.

The grain alcohol in an average dose of herbal extract containing 70% alcohol is equivalent to 1/50th of a small glass of wine (a ripe banana can contain as much). Our extracts contain a maximum of 40% alcohol.
